Alice Christine Middlebrooks King
September 2, 1933 – April 27, 2026
The sun rose on September 2, 1933, welcoming the light we came to know and love in the form of Alice Christine Middlebrooks, born in Haddock, Georgia, to her loving parents, Elizabeth Irene and Archie Middlebrooks, who both preceded her in death. Alice Christine—a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, and cherished matriarch—peacefully transitioned from this earthly life on April 27, 2026, in La Plata, Maryland, surrounded by her devoted family members who reside in the area.
From an early age, Alice Christine’s parents ensured that she and her siblings—Ossie Lee Harris, Narciss Peasley, Eunice Andrews, Letha Perry, Ella Mae Banks, Bessie Stewart, Frank Middlebrooks, Archie Middlebrooks, Jr., Elizabeth Sims-Hightower, Thomas Middlebrooks, and James Middlebrooks (all who preceded her in death), along with Francis Reynolds, Marie Quarker, and Barbara Pounds—were raised in a God-fearing home as members of Adams Tabernacle in Haddock. The tenth of fifteen children, Alice Christine and her siblings attended school in the Jones County Public School System.
On April 1, 1952, Alice Christine was united in marriage to Frank King, Jr. of Macon, Georgia. Together, they built a life rooted in love, faith, and service. As a devoted military spouse, Alice Christine faithfully supported her husband throughout his service in the U.S. Army, including his time at Ft. Bragg, his service during the Korean War, numerous temporary duty assignments during the Vietnam War, his tenure at Warner Robins Air Force Base, and his service in the U.S. Army Reserve in Macon, Georgia.
Macon became the place where they established their home and raised their eight children: Edna Lucille King-Gilbert (Kenneth Gilbert), Wayne Montgomery King (Shirley Sherman), Gwendolyn King Eason (Ralph Eason, deceased), Gregory King (deceased), Cherry Ann King (Ron Henry, deceased), all of Macon; Frankie Denise King of White Plains, Maryland; Frank King, III (Jennie King) of Leesburg, Virginia; and Melissa King of White Plains, Maryland.
In her early 30s, while living in Macon, Alice Christine rededicated her life to God. She and her children became members of Greater Lizzieboro Baptist Church, where they were baptized under the leadership of Reverend Moses Dumas.
Following the passing of her loving husband on July 30, 1972, Alice Christine devoted herself to raising her children and continued to serve as a loving caregiver across generations. She nurtured and cared for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren during various seasons of their lives, providing unwavering support, guidance, and love.
In 2003, Alice Christine began spending time in White Plains, Maryland, initially to care for one of her children during an illness. Over time, her visits became more frequent and extended, eventually leading her to maintain two residences, traveling between Georgia and Maryland as she felt led.
While in Maryland, Alice embraced new friends and experiences and discovered a love for travel. After taking her first flight in her early 70s, she developed a fondness for flying, which allowed her to visit siblings and extended family across the country and to explore historic and cultural sites nationwide. She particularly enjoyed attending national political events in the Washington, D.C. area, including gatherings associated with the Congressional Black Caucus. She also worshipped at several churches in the region until declining health eventually kept her homebound in her later years.
Alice Christine’s legacy is carried forward by her surviving children, siblings, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren (the newest of whom she was blessed to see who was born in March of this year), great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, and dear friends—all of whom were touched by her generosity, warmth, and enduring love.
Though she was a woman with a low-key, quiet, and humble spirit, Alice Christine will always be remembered for her boundless compassion, her strength as a pillar of her family, and her unwavering faith. Her nurturing presence and giving heart have left an indelible mark on all who knew her. As we say goodbye, we carry forward her legacy of love, kindness, and devotion—a shining light that will forever warm the hearts of her family and friends.
