With heavy hearts and sadness, we announce the passing of Betty Jean English, who peacefully transitioned from this life on April 15, 2026, in Prince George’s County, Maryland. Born on October 29, 1956, in Washington, DC. Betty lived a life marked by devotion, love, and a nurturing spirit that touched all who knew her.
Betty started her educational journey in Washington DC and continued her education in the St. Mary's County public school system. She devoted her career to serving others as a Certified Nursing Assistant, offering comfort and care with a loving and compassionate heart. Those who crossed paths with Betty would remember her as a happy and pleasant person, though she could be stubborn at times, she valued her own company and found peace in solitude. She was a God-fearing woman and attended her home church of First Missionary Baptist Church regularly.
Her life was rich with the things that brought her joy and fulfillment. Betty loved to dance and listen to music. She especially loved the oldies but goodies, particularly anything by Tyrone Davis. She enjoyed walking and would often venture out on foot while catching the sunrays. She enjoyed visiting the casino and playing the slot machines. Among the precious memories Betty leaves behind is her cherished role in helping raise her great nephew, George Bush, Jr.
Betty was preceded in homegoing by her child Baby Fenwick; her parents Walter and Marie English; her siblings Rosalee English, Walter Jerry English, Jr; Neil Willie English, and Roger English; as well as her sister-in-law Wygenia English and brothers-in-law Benjamin F. Johnson and Lawrence Akinshade.
Betty leaves behind a loving family who will forever hold her memory close: her children Frank James Fenwick III and Lionel English; her beloved granddaughter T'Kiara Herbert; her grandson Trevon Nunley; her devoted companion George Edward Sewell Jr.; her sisters Ethel “Mickey” English, Christine Johnson, and Shirley Akinshade; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The community is invited to pay their respects during the visitation on April 28, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., followed by a celebration of her life from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the First Missionary Baptist Church located at 46370 Pegg Lane, Lexington Park, MD 20653.
Betty will be deeply missed but forever cherished by all who knew her. Though her passing was untimely, the peacefulness of her transition brings some comfort amidst the sorrow. She leaves behind a legacy of love, care, strength, and the comforting knowledge that she embraced life fully and richly. She will remain forever in our hearts.
