Obituary

David Leroy Barnes, affectionately known as “Pop Pop” by his bonus children and grandchildren, was born on January 10, 1961, in Leonardtown, MD to Leon William Barnes and Agnes Cecelia Barnes (Evans). He entered eternal rest on March 11, 2026, in Leonardtown, MD.

David received his formal education from St. Mary’s County Public School System. He worked for Capital Hill Maintenance at the Pax River Naval Base. In his spare time, David also provided lawn care services.

David enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was a very loving and caring person who would help anybody in need. He enjoyed chauffeuring others to appointments and lending a helping hand. His favorite pastimes include dancing, listening to music, people watching, and playing the lottery. David was also liked watching football and was a loyal Dallas Cowboys fan. David was a believer and loved going to church. He was very dapper and didn’t miss a chance to impress in his suits.

David leaves to cherish his memory two brothers: Christopher “Chris” Barnes and Jeffrey Barnes; three sisters: Brenda Barnes, Leona “Darlene” Barnes, and Faye “Lisa” Barnes; godchildren, William “Lamont” Barnes and Javonte Kent; one uncle: Thomas “Tommy’ Evans; two aunts: Arlene Evans and Carlene Evans; bonus children: Shirley Davis, Tyrone Davis, Donnetta Herbert (Martin), Mellisa Davis, Lanatasha Robinson (Long), and Joann Baker (James); 21 grandchildren including special granddaughter Zy Zy; 14 great-grandchildren including special great-grandson Avyion; special friend Alice Robinson; and a host of nieces, nephews, close relatives, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Leon Barnes and Agnes Evans Barnes; brothers: William “Punk” Barnes, Timothy “Timmy” Barnes, and Gregory Barnes; and sisters: Deborah “Debi” Briscoe Brooks and Pamela “Pam” Barnes.
