Obituary

Harvis Satcher Jr., a man remembered for his dependable nature, quick wit, and unwavering protectiveness, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2026, in Maryland, just one day shy of his 65th birthday. Born on April 13, 1961, in Mississippi, Harvis lived a life rich with simple joys and steadfast commitment to those he loved.

Harvis was known as a no-nonsense individual who cherished being outdoors and staying active. His passions included fishing, camping, and traveling in his RV, where he found solace in nature’s embrace. He was also an enthusiastic cook, delighting in the art of preparing meals and famously savoring moist cakes—a favorite indulgence that friends and family remember fondly. A sports enthusiast, Harvis enjoyed watching football and was an avid card player. One particularly cherished memory is of him playing spades alongside his wife at Anacostia Park, a pastime that revealed his love for friendly competition and companionship.

Educationally, Harvis earned his GED through JobCorp, a testament to his dedication and resilience. Professionally, he contributed many years of hard work as a forklift operator, a role in which his reliability shone through.

Harvis’s personality was marked by his humor and loyalty. Often the jokester in his circle, he had an infectious ability to lighten the mood. He was protective especially of his baby sisters and loved being out and about, engaging with life fully and on his own terms.

His family was central to his life. He is survived by his sisters—Jeannette Henderson, Annie Joyce Satcher, Irma Jean Satcher, Barbara Ann (Kevin) Butler—and a wide circle of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends who deeply cherish his memory. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lillie Mae Rush, and his parents, Harvis and Helen Satcher Sr.

A visitation to honor the life of Harvis Satcher Jr. will be held on April 24, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Corinth Baptist Church, located at 814 Cypresstree Drive in Capitol Heights, Maryland. The celebration of life will follow immediately after from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the same location.

Harvis’s journey was one of devotion, joy, and heartfelt connections. Though his passing was untimely, his peaceful transition marks the close of a chapter filled with treasured memories and enduring love. He will be profoundly missed by all who knew him but fondly remembered for the laughter he shared and the strength he embodied.
