James Andrew “Blip” Mason’s Online Obituary

May 11, 1948 – October 3, 2026

James Andrew “Blip” Mason, 78, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2026, in Solomons, MD.

Born May 11, 1948, in Compton, MD, Blip was the sixth of twelve children born to the late Jeremiah A. Mason, Sr. and the late Mary Florence Hebb Mason.

Blip attended the St. Mary’s County public school system. He worked a variety of jobs primarily in the building maintenance field. His last full-time position was at the U.S. Navy Commissary in Patuxent River, MD.

Blip enjoyed being around people. He especially loved playing bingo and trying his luck with the lottery. Always willing to keep busy and find new opportunities, Blip could be considered an entrepreneur. He was well known for buying and selling used cars, transporting people to appointments, hauling and cutting grass.

Blip will be remembered for his unique personality and the many ways he touched the lives of those around him. Although his final numbers have been called and played and his last auto sale has been finalized, the love he shared and the memories he leaves behind are truly priceless.

Blip leaves to cherish his memory two brothers: Douglas Mason (Vickey) and Michael Mason (Phyllis); five sisters-in-law: Mamie Mason, Elizabeth Barnes, Bevaline Mason, Mary Young, and Paula Mason; and one brother-in-law, Mark Jones, Sr. Blip is also survived by his aunts: Rosetta Gough, Linda Dyson, and Ella Robinson; one uncle, Francis Hebb; and many nieces, nephews, family, and friends. His youngest niece, Lorenda, had a special place in his heart.

Blip was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings: Jeremiah Mason Jr., Mary Mason Jones, John Mason, George Mason, Joseph Mason, Thomas Mason, Leroy Mason, Maria Mason Nelson (Lorenzo), and Carolyn Mason.

Throughout his life, Blip was blessed to have many special people by his side. The family extends heartfelt appreciation to Sophia Chase, Celeste Courtney, Mary Virginia “Jinny” Scriber, Melvin Butler, John Somerville, Larry Dickens and Mark Jones, Sr. for their kindness, support and assistance during the past few months.

Though Blip’s time with us has come to an end, the memories he created and the love he shared will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. May Blip rest peacefully, knowing that he was truly a winning number in the lives of those who loved him.
