Joseph Xavier Young

Joseph Xavier Young, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on June 19, 2025, in Washington DC, surrounded by loved ones. Born on July 23, 1963, in Maryland, Joesph led a life characterized by his laid-back personality and his unique ability to share inside jokes with those closest to him.

Throughout his career as a contract manager, Joseph made significant contributions to his field while maintaining a warm and humorous approach that endeared him to colleagues and clients alike. His love for the racetrack was well-known; he had a particular passion for drag racing and dreamed of owning a classic 1969 Chevelle. An ardent fan of the Dallas Cowboys, he shared his enthusiasm not only for the sport but also for collecting model cars that reflected his appreciation for automotive design.

Joseph cherished spending quality time outdoors, often found cutting grass with a sense of pride, and every Friday would dedicate time to ensuring his vehicles sparkled clean. Music was another passion, especially old-school tunes, with a special fondness R&B classics

Joseph leaves behind his wife, Dawn Young, and children Kimberly (Joey) Huffnagle, Joseph Young Jr., Ajani Butler, Raven Taylor, and Shonell Johnson. He will be deeply missed by his grandchildren Trevase, Adyen, Khloe, Journey, Matthew, and Joseph (aka Little Joey), as well as Domonique and Alani. His mother, Cecilia Young , and mother-in-law, Roberta Sutton, along with his siblings Darnell Young, Kesica (Clinton) Brooks, Melissa (Larry) Brown, Mary Brown, David Lawrence, and Daryl Lawrence, are left to cherish his memory. And a host of nieces and nephews Camisha , Cadejah , Markeeta ,Cameron ,Matthew .

He is preceded in death by his father, Joseph Young, and father in-law Edward Dent, his siblings Cheryl Young and Larry Young and his grandparents James and Viola Dickens.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during a viewing on July 2, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM at Gospel Tabernacle of Prayer, located at 24516 Budds Creek Rd, Clements, MD 20624. Joseph will be laid to rest at Queen Of Peace Cemetery, Mechanicsville, MD, after a burial service that commences at 12:30 PM.

Joseph Xavier Young’s legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
