Joseph Woodridge Jr., a vibrant spirit born on February 6, 1940, in Louisiana, departed this world unexpectedly on January 6, 2026, in Waldorf, Maryland. He leaves behind a rich legacy of creativity, humor, and devotion to family that will forever echo in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

A proud veteran, Joseph served honorably in the United States Navy, embodying the values of dedication and service that would characterize his life. After completing his education at Booker T. Washington High School in New Orleans, he ventured into the world as an entrepreneur, skillfully running a full-service gas station while also honing his expertise as an auto diesel mechanic. He was the founder and owner of District Transmission which was located in Washington DC for over 30 years. His business acumen was matched only by his artistic flair and musical talent, which allowed him to play a variety of instruments, including the tenor saxophone, electric and bass guitar, piano and many other instruments. His creativity also flourished through his artistic endeavors, where he captivated others with his ability to bowl, draw, cook, working on boats, dump trucks, and many other things.

Joseph was affectionately known by his bowling nickname, “747” and other nicknames such as my cupcake, Pops, Big, and Mr. Joe. He was a pleasant and funny character, with warmth radiating from his very being. His love for life extended to his favorite culinary pleasures, with a particular fondness for indulging his taste buds at buffets and savoring the delicious okra and file gumbo. When he was not engaging in his myriad of hobbies, which included bowling, singing, hand dancing, bowling and listening to soulful southern music, he could often be found surrounded by family, sharing laughter and shifting easily into the role of entertainer.

Joseph's life was enriched by a close-knit family that included his children: Larkin Leonard, Antonio Woodridge Sr., Tishana Woodridge, Son -In- Law MurRay Bethea, Nikia Woodridge, and Tia (Ronald) Exum. He will also blessed with Katrina and Shelia Woodridge who took care of him throughout this time.

He was also blessed with the joy of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, alongside a large entourage of siblings, including Edgar (Regina) Woodridge, Annie Woodridge, Norman C. (Christine) Woodridge Sr., Carroll and Carolyn Woodridge, and Iris Woodridge, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He is now reunited with his beloved wife, Geraldine Alma Woodridge, and his son, Joseph Woodridge III. Also, among those who have preceded him are his siblings Althea Sparrow, Joachim Woodridge Sr., Anitoile Woodridge, and Sheila Woodridge. Their memories live on through the stories and love they imparted, further strengthening the fabric of the family he adored.
