Obituary

Kenneth Jerome Reede, affectionately known to many as Kenny, passed away on June 2, 2026, in Laplata, Maryland. Born on July 15, 1955, in Lexington Park, Maryland, Kenny lived a life full of stories, laughter, and a steadfast work ethic that left a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

A graduate of the Charles County Public Schools System, Kenny chose a career path where he could put his talents to good use—working as a custodian with the Department of Education. He had an unparalleled knack for making floors so shiny that you could see your reflection perfectly—truly a man who left everything with a gleam, both literally and metaphorically.

Kenny was a proud veteran, having served his country with honor in the Army Reserve. His love for the military spirit extended beyond his service, often showcased by his favorite pastime: dressing as a true cowboy. Donning cowboy hats, belt buckles, and boots, he channeled his inner western spirit. At gatherings, you could count on Kenny to surprise everyone by pulling a harmonica from his pocket and breaking into an impromptu army dance that was both spirited and unforgettable.

An avid Dallas Cowboys fan, Kenny combined his love of football with his infectious personality. But it wasn’t just sports or his shining floors that defined him—it was his gift as a storyteller. You never quite knew whether the tale he spun was fact or friendly fiction, but that was part of his charm. Friendly, approachable, and well-spoken, Kenny could talk to anyone and earn their respect. A man of wisdom, he earnestly coined the nickname “Junior” for anyone who might need a little advice, offering guidance in his uniquely no-nonsense way—a rare combination where laughter mingled effortlessly with life's serious lessons.

His family was the center of his universe. Loving his children and grandchildren fearlessly, he treasured moments spent sharing stories on his patio, often with music playing in the background. He took pride in keeping his car spotless—after all, self-respect showed in the small details!

Kenny’s closest living family includes his beloved children Michelle Reede and Shamika Reede; bonus daughter Renee Lewis his lively grandchildren, Zeion Brown, Elijah Brown, Amani Brown, Taila Hariston, and Davon Penamon; as well as his devoted siblings Barbara Campbell, Joseph (Jackie) Cole, Ann (Gerald) Hawkins, Brenda Coates, Ernest Cole, Clinton (Sharon) Cole, and Theresa (Wayne) Greenfield. He leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who all cherished his warmth and straightforward nature.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Oden & Helen Reed Cole Coates, along with siblings James Francis Cole, Thomas Christopher Cole, and John Campbell.

Family, friends, and all whose lives he touched are invited to pay their final respects at Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church, located at 100 Village St in Waldorf, MD 20602. Visitation will be held on June 18, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 am, followed by a Mass to celebrate his life from 11:00 am to noon.

Kenneth Jerome Reede lived a life with honest pride, humor, and heart, leaving behind stories that will continue to make us smile—even if we’re never quite sure how much of them were true. Rest easy, Kenny—the floors are shining, the harmonica’s playing softly, and somewhere, the Cowboys are tipping their hats to you.
