Mary Josephine Young

Mary Josephine Young, a beacon of unwavering love and steadfast faith, departed this earthly realm on January 5, 2026, at the serene age of ninety-five, surrounded by her devoted family in Callaway, Maryland. Born on April 19, 1930, in the same state she cherished throughout her life, Mary exemplified the dynamics of a nurturing parent, a devoted wife, and a compassionate caregiver.

Her unyielding spirit was evident in her lifelong dedication to her family. A consummate homemaker, Mary arose each day before the dawn, stirring with the sun to prepare hearty breakfasts and evening meals that beckoned family and friends alike. Her legendary stuffed ham became the centerpiece of gatherings; culinary delights were not merely sustenance for her but a means of bringing people together, drawing loved ones from near and far in appreciation of her culinary prowess. She was employed by the Cammack family for many years, and she loved and cherished the Cammack family just like her very own.

With an innate ability to organize and structure her household, Mary cultivated an environment steeped in love and warmth. Despite her quiet demeanor, she was a wellspring of strength and wisdom, always ready with words of advice for those in need. A heart of gold defined her essence, alongside a resolute determination that saw her opening her home to children beyond her own, raising them with the same fervent love as her biological children.

Her unshakeable faith was the cornerstone of her life. Embracing God at a young age, Mary infused her home with spirituality, immersing herself in scripture and ensuring her children were guided on a righteous path. Her devotion to family was mirrored in her proudest accomplishment: creating a sanctuary of support and nurturing for her husband and children, where they could flourish under her watchful eye. Mary was a faith-filled woman who faithfully prayed day and night.

She enjoyed gardening, playing bingo, watching sports and going fishing.

Mary is lovingly remembered by her surviving family, including her children Cathy (Fredrick) Parker and a host of grandchildren—Tenia, Mary, Feliciaca, Joseph, John, Marvin, Denise, Wayne, Vaughn, along with numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who were fortunate enough to know her kindness.

She now joins her beloved husband, Joseph Henry Young, and their children, Joseph E. Young and Florine Herbert, as well as her parents, Joseph and Mary Herbert, and her siblings Frances, James, Catherine, Elizabeth, and Joseph, in eternal rest.

A viewing in celebration of her life will take place at Holy Face Church in Callaway, Maryland, on January 19, 2026, beginning at 10:00 AM, followed by a Mass at 11:30 AM. Mary's journey will culminate in burial at Charles Memorial Gardens in Leonardtown at 1:00 PM.

As we reflect upon Mary Josephine Young's legacy, let us remember a life rich with purpose, love, and unyielding faith—a life that shaped and inspired all who were blessed to walk
