Nichelle TeriLynn Tompkins-Holt, known as Teri, most passed away suddenly and untimely on September 1, 2026, in Leonardtown, Maryland. She was born on September 12, 1968, in Washington, DC, and lived a life marked by candor, warmth, devotion to family, and a spirit that embraced joy.

Teri's family moved from Washington DC to what she called the country. Teri attended the St. Mary’s County public school system and graduated from CHOPTICON High School with the Class of 1986. She continued her education at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore and at Howard University, an HBCU, and later received an associate degree. In her professional life, Nichelle worked as an administrative assistant.

Those who knew Nichelle will remember a person who spoke her mind and carried herself with honesty and heart. She had no cut cards and was truly a straight shooter, while also being a loving mother who loved to have a good time. Nichelle found happiness in singing and cooking. Her pot roast and macaroni and cheese were family favorites. She also enjoyed traveling, gambling, and taking trips to the casino. Above all, she treasured time with her daughter, Asia; the two were often glued at the hip, sharing a bond that was deeply cherished.

Nichelle’s life was rooted in the family. She is survived by her husband, James "Billy" for the past 38 years; daughter, Asia Tompkins-Holt; mother, Barbara Carter; sister, Adriane Carter; brother, Ricardo Tompkins (Stacy); brothers-in-law, Joseph Herbert, known as “Turk”, Ty vie Herbert; Martin Holt, Eric Holt and James Harley, sisters-in-laws Doris Herbert, known as “Becky”; Constance Herbert, known as Boo, Shadina Harley and Vodera Harley-Scott (Bradford). Close friends Beverly Jackson and Joseph Brothers. Her Godmother Bernardette Herbert She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will carry her memory forward with love.

She was preceded in death by her father, Clarence Tompkins; her grandmother, Dorothy Clarke; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Raymond and Regina Holt; and her brother-in-law, Raymond Holt Jr and her uncle Michael Young who she loved dearly.

Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Gospel Tabernacle of Prayer, 24516 Budds Creek Rd, Clements, Maryland 20624. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the same location.

Nichelle Teri Lynn Tompkins-Holt will be remembered for her outspoken nature, her laughter, her love of good food and good times, and the deep affection she gave to those closest to her. Her presence leaves a lasting imprint on all who knew and loved her.
