Rosetta Lucille Young, affectionately known as "RoRo" by her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren, peacefully departed this life on Wednesday, July 29, 2026. She leaves behind a legacy of unwavering love, strength, honesty, and devotion to her family that will forever be cherished.

Rosetta was raised in Compton, Maryland, where she developed the steadfast character and "tell-it-like-it-is" spirit that became her trademark throughout her life. She was known for speaking the truth with love, standing firmly on her principles, and offering honest guidance to anyone who sought her wisdom.

For many years, Rosetta faithfully served as a Custodian Engineer with the federal government at Naval Air Station Patuxent River. She took great pride in her work and was admired for her dedication, strong work ethic, and quiet commitment to serving others. Whether at work or at home, Rosetta believed in doing every task with excellence and integrity.

Family was the center of Rosetta's life, and her greatest joy came from being surrounded by those she loved most. As the family matriarch, she opened her heart and home across generations, creating a place where laughter was shared, traditions were honored, and everyone knew they belonged. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren lovingly called her "RoRo," a name that reflected the deep affection they held for her and the special bond they shared.

Rosetta found joy in life's simple pleasures. Friday evenings were often reserved for spirited poker games with friends, and she never turned down a good card game or a round of bingo. She enjoyed shopping, relaxing with her favorite television programs—including Family Feud, Animal Planet, and her favorite soap opera, The Young and the Restless—and, above all, spending meaningful time with those she loved.

Her kitchen was another place where love was generously shared. Rosetta was well known for her famous mashed potatoes and gravy—an absolute favorite that she would happily enjoy even for breakfast. Her homemade cakes and delicious lasagna were cherished family favorites that brought everyone to the table. Those meals were more than food; they were expressions of her love, care, and generosity that created memories her family will treasure forever.

Rosetta possessed a rare gift for making people feel truly seen and deeply loved. Nurturing, compassionate, fiercely honest, and unwaveringly loyal, she celebrated with her family during life's happiest moments and stood beside them through its greatest challenges with strength, grace, and unconditional love.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory her loving children: Agnes "Denise" Woodland, John Young, Joseph Young, and Marvin Young.

She also leaves to cherish her memory her beloved siblings: Linda (David) Herbert, Dorothy (James) Chase, John Somerville, Alice (James) Bennefield, and Stacy Somerville; 17 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and lifelong friends whose lives were richly blessed by her warmth, wisdom, and kindness.

Rosetta was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Mary Estelle Somerville; her father, James William Marshall; her brother, James Somerville; and her son-in-law, Myron Woodland. Though they are no longer with us in earthly presence, the love and memories they shared remain a lasting source of comfort.

Rosetta's wisdom, resilience, unwavering love, and steadfast devotion to her family leave behind a legacy that will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know and love her. While she will be deeply missed, her spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those whose lives she touched.
