The family of Scott Eric Beland invites you to stand with them as he takes his Last Ride—a final journey not defined by miles, but by the memories, laughter, and brotherhood. This will be a Memorial & Reflection Service, where all are welcome to share stories, honor his life, and celebrate the legacy he leaves behind.
Scott Eric Beland, age 64, of White Plains, Maryland, passed away from a motorcycle accident on April 3, 2026, in Waldorf, Maryland. Scott was known and deeply loved by family, friends, and coworkers alike. He was always ready to lend a hand, offer a ride, or welcome others as family. If you were a friend of his wife and kids, he loved you like family.
Born at Malcolm Grow Hospital, Andrews AFB, Camp Springs, MD, Scott was the son of Milton (Bill) Reid Beland, Jr. and Sharon (Sherry) Chewning Beland. Raised in the La Plata-Bel Alton area of Southern Maryland, his family later moved to Clinton, MD where he graduated from Surrattsville Senior High School in 1980.
At just 14 years old, he began earning money delivering newspapers. He worked at the Waldorf Roller Skating Rink, where he DJ’d and taught skating lessons. He worked at the McDonald’s in Clinton, MD during high school. After graduation he went into the U.S. Army and was Honorably Discharged. He worked as a mechanic before becoming a government civilian employee until he decided to be self-employed, operating Scott’s Home Services from 1998-2002. Then he began his career as Superintendent for Desbuild, Inc. then went to work for their sister company CJW Contractors, Inc. where he became a Quality Control Manager.
Scott met the love of his life, Kelley, at the 94 th Aero Squadron in College Park, MD, while he was out celebrating his 26 th birthday, they were introduced by their friend Lorenzo (Zo) Thomas. They began dating two weeks later. They were married on October 9, 1993, beginning a devoted partnership that lasted 32 1/2 years. Together, they raised two children.
Scott loved bowling, going shooting, drag racing, riding his motorcycle and tinkering in his garage with his cars and motorcycles. He also loved going to Myrtle Beach for Bike Week and hanging out locally with friends. He especially liked that his friends knew that if the garage door was open, they could come in, take a seat, grab a beer from the fridge or bring their own, and shoot the breeze. He liked watching NASCAR and drag racing, but also enjoyed watching pre-recorded shows on weekends with Kelley. Scott was a loving grandfather (GPB-Grand Pa Beland) to Ashlynn Merchant and Logan Merchant, a role which he took very seriously. He loved watching them play ball and when they would visit, he could be found tinkering in the garage or wrestling with them, or letting them run in the sprinkler.
Scott was preceded in death by his father Bill Beland, his brother Sandy Beland and Nanny Ruby Aiello. He is survived by his wife Kelley Beland, children, Stacey Merchant (Brandon) of Huntingtown, MD, and Scott (Scotty) Beland II of Wheaton, MD, grandchildren, Ashlynn and Logan Merchant. He is also survived by his sister Staci Schauman (Bill), his mother Sharon Beland and several nieces and nephews.
Scott had written down some dates that were very important to him and wanted to have them tattooed on his arm. They were 3-12-83 , 7-15/22-87 , 2-12-88 , 3-12-89 , 10-9-93 , 9-7-2000 (Nanny), 4 Dad 2005 .
Scott’s dedication to work and quiet generosity will be remembered always, but most of all his devotion to his family.
