Sandra Arletta Shorter “Candy” passed away untimely on August 19, 2026. She was born on July 3, 1961, in Charles County, Maryland.

Sandra will be remembered with deep love by the family she cherished. She is survived by her children, John Yates (RonNeka), Wayne “Chris” Yates, Brandon Yates, and Amairah Yates (Brandon). Her legacy continues in her grandchildren, Daron Riley, Wayne “LC” Yates Jr., Aniya Yates, Alaiah Dickerson, Zakye Yates, Nhyla Dickerson, Kennedi Thompson-Yates, and Pierre Dickerson, each of whom held a special place in her heart.

She is also lovingly remembered by her siblings and extended family: her brothers, Darryl Kitt (Eleanor), Nelson Shorter Jr. (Cecelia Cobey), and Keith Shorter (Maurishka); her sisters, Eleanor Johnson, Jeannette Turner (Richard), and Donna Shorter (Delmont Green); and her sister-in-law, Lisa Shorter.

She also leaves behind her fiancée, James Dorsey; her special companion, Barktholomew Ulysses Dorsey “Buddy”; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will carry her memory forward with affection and gratitude.

Sandra was preceded in death by her father, Nelson Shorter; her mother, Eleanor Jenifer; her stepfather, Joseph Jenifer; her brothers, Patrick Shorter and Maurice Locks; brother- in-law Cardinal Johnson and her bonus sister and best friend, Melissa Johnson. Their memories remained part of the story of her life and the family bond that shaped her.

Family and friends are invited to gather in celebration of Sandra life on September 12, 2026, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 13715 Notre Dame Place, Bryantown, Maryland 20617. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Burial will take place afterward from 12:15 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Sandra Arletta Shorter will be remembered for the love she gave to her family and the lasting place she holds in their hearts. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved her.
