Tyrone White

Tyrone White, a treasured member of his family and community, peacefully passed away on September 7, 2025, in Newburg, Maryland. He was born on June 29, 1939, in Washington, DC. Tyrone dedicated 38 years of his life working as a receiving clerk for Safeway, demonstrating a strong work ethic that was admired by many. His commitment to his profession was matched only by his passion for life, which he shared with those around him.

Tyrone's big-hearted nature defined his interactions. Known for being a provider, he was always willing to lend a hand and offer support to others, albeit with a lecture that showcased his leadership. He instilled values in his children and grandchildren, often expressing his love through song, particularly the cherished tune “I Really Love You,” which he would sing to them.

An avid lover of the outdoors, Tyrone enjoyed fishing and spent enjoyable afternoons playing cards, with whist being his favorite game. His unique hobby of raising pigeons brought him much joy, and he took pride in the pigeon coop that he maintained.

In addition to his career, Tyrone actively advocated for his community. He was a proud member of the Teamster Union and supported the Boys and Girls Club through generous contributions. As a member of the Black Caucus of DC, he was also an activist associated with the NAACP, fighting for justice and equality.

Tyrone is survived by his children, Samuel, Debra (Robert), Yvonne (Kenneth), Kevin (Melissa), and Tyrone; his siblings, Cecelia Green and Zarita Pearson; his grandchildren, Samuel Jr., Luemas, Nikea, Lavelle, Maurice, Tawrence, Kevin Jr., Derek, Ramsey, and Anthony; along with his granddaughters, Nikea, Trinece, and Jammie.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Yvonne; his daughter, Karen; and his parents, James Shirley and Mary Lowe.

Family, friends, and loved ones are invited to celebrate Tyrone's remarkable life. The visitation will take place on September 25, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Matthews Memorial Baptist Church, located at 2616 Martin Luther King Jr Ave SE in Washington, DC. This will be followed by a funeral service at the church from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM. The burial will occur at Fort Lincoln Cemetery in Brentwood, MD, at 1:00 PM.

Tyrone White leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication that will be cherished by all who had the privilege to know him. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for his warmth, wisdom, and unwavering support for his family and community.
